Motivation

In 1988 I became a single mother. I remember thinking “there should be more resources for single mothers”, and that if I had the money I could help in some way. I did not know then that my life's focus would be service to others. Being a single mother of two for the past 16 years has proven to be a very wonderful, yet at times trying experience. More and more females are heading the households and often forced to work two jobs just to stay afloat and our children are most likely left to fend for themselves; thus creating a large population of latchkey kids. We are seeing an influx of grandparents having to care for grandchildren and an overabundant number of births to teenagers. We currently have healthcare and childcare challenges which prevent us from living up to our full potential. In times when the extended family is quickly dissipating, the time is now for us to come together and support each other, whatever the need may be. I have often been told how strong willed I am but at times simply did not know where to go or whom to turn to for help. Through the outreach of this ministry I strive to make a positive difference in the lives of single mothers worldwide.

Motivational Statistics

In the state of Georgia alone, there are disproportionate numbers of women, children and elderly living at, or below the poverty level - 34.3% are female head of household, 17.3% are children, and 13% are elderly. Current federal guidelines for poverty households are delineated by family size, with the poverty threshold for a family of three in Fiscal Year 2003 being $15,260.

The Increase in poverty combined with current downward economic trends; increasing unemployment and homeless; and the negative effect of welfare reform on the disadvantaged; reveal the necessity for programs that will address their needs, enrich their lives, and financially elevate them to a position of self-sufficiency.
